Port City Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale coming May 18!

We’re proud to be working with Port City Brewing Company to create a limited edition beer—Borracho Smokin’ Brown Aleto be released on May 18 at The Pinch in Washington, DC. The beer will only be available at the 18th of May show, so plan to be there if you want to taste it!

Smokin' Brown Ale Release Show!

We’ve been working closely with Port City Brewing to custom design Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale to our specifications. Starting with our collective favorite beer style, brown ale, the recipe was developed to also match our smoldering, dark and heavy sound.

Beer nerds rejoice! Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale has smoky undertones derived from adding locally-grown and smoked barley malt to the mash. The smokiness is complemented with complex earthy and subtle roast flavors by including caramel and chocolate malt, and a touch of roasted barley. This brew is moderately hopped with Magnum and Fuggle hops to provide the right balance make it easy drinking.  Borracho Smokin’ Brown Ale pours a dark brown color and is devilishly delivered at 6.66% alcohol by volume.

To mark the beer’s release, Port City, DCHeavyMetal.com and The Pinch will present a free night of riff-heavy live music. The May 18 show will kick off at 8:00 PM with Delaware’s Wasted Theory. The smoke will thicken for Maryland doomers WeedIsWeed, and Boston’s lethal Cortez will kill the stage before we play a steamy and likely drunken set.

Changing of the Guard

Dear Fans,

Your support and enthusiasm for Borracho over the past couple of years has been nothing short of amazing. We are truly thankful for the opportunity to make and play music for you that gets your heart pumping, your head banging, and your mind reeling.

Those of you — particularly in the U.S. who have seen us play live in the past ten months or so — know that we’ve been performing without our intrepid front man Noah while he’s been abroad working. We’ve unveiled some new music during that time as an accidental trio, and last month we entered the studio to record that material for a new release to come out this year. But as we work on finishing this project, plan for it’s release, and book shows to support it, we’ve reached an unplanned crossroads as we learned that Noah will be abroad longer than originally planned. With his absence extended, we became less certain about how we could continue to provide the same high-quality low heavy groove live as we could in the studio. We knew we couldn’t and shouldn’t maintain one sound on recordings and another for our live shows. Something had to give.

So, it is with a heavy heart that we announce that Borracho will continue on for the foreseeable future without our brother Noah. Guitarist Steve Fisher has ably taken over vocal duties full time and our forthcoming releases will feature Steve on vocals. Our next record should give you, our fans, an accurate representation of what you can expect to see and hear when you come to a Borracho show. Noah is and remains fully embedded in the DNA of Borracho, and when he returns to the States will be welcomed back to the fold.

In the end, what we promise you is 110% of our efforts to assure every record and every show is as good as it possibly can get. It’s been our benchmark from Day One and will not change. Despite this unfortunate turn, we are really excited about the new material we’re working on and we hope you like it too. So join us in raising a tall frosty one to Noah and also to a bright future for the tres hombres Borracho!

Recording for Splitting Sky follow up begins!

Two 7” singles, two videos, a 10” single, and three compilation appearances after our debut LP Splitting Sky hit airwaves in June 2011, this weekend we entered the studio to lay down brand new music for a proper follow up release. We’ve reunited with Splitting Sky producer Frank Marchand at his brand new Hudson Street Sound studio in Annapolis MD to bring the same heavy crush you heard on the last one. The as-yet untitled record will be co-released on limited edition 12” vinyl by No Balls Records (Germany) and Ghost Highway Recordings (Spain) in June. We think you’re gonna like it!

Last but not least, we’ll get back to playing a few shows in late March with new friends and old, and lining up some more killer shows beyond that. Swing by our shows page to see what’s brewing.

Mob Gathering 7" sleeve cover

Mob Gathering 7" sleeve cover

Back in the spring of 2009, we began work on what was planned to be our debut studio release, recording in an old, abandoned Art Deco mansion nestled in the woods of Arlington, Virginia. These early “Mansion Sessions” wrapped up that summer, but we opted to not release the recordings. In the end, only two tracks from the mansion sessions were used as publicly available demos in 2010, and some of the material was re-recorded for what would become our debut Splitting Sky, released in 2011. The rest never saw the light of day…

…until now. Dusted off and polished up with a brand spanking new mix by Frank Marchand — who engineered and produced Splitting Sky — these two tracks offer an historical glimpse into the early sound twe were crafting nearly four years ago. Shorter, faster, but with the requisite twists and turns, they offer something new for the Borracho fan and anybody just discovering us.

The Mob Gathering 7” single will be co-released in a limited edition of 300 copies (200 black, 100 orange/black swirl) via No Balls Records (Germany) and Ghost Highway Recordings (Spain) on March 12. Both “Mob Gathering” and the B side track “Short Ride (When it’s Over)” are available for streaming, and the 7” can be pre-ordered on our Bandcamp site.

You can catch us on the road soon, teaming up with Been Obscene (Austria) and SuperVoid (Pittlburgh PA) for a trio of shows in March, and with friends El Grande, Clamfight, and Neon Warship joining us along the way. Three great shows, and three opportunities to grab a copy of the new 7”. Hope to see ya out there!

New wax hits street

So here’s something… Borracho has a new record! On Nov. 27, we’re releasing “Plunge/Return”—the second single from our debut album Splitting Sky—on 10” colored vinyl from Strange Magic Records.

Plunge/Return vinyl array

Sweet, luscious vinyl in clear, blue and white

Vinyl completionists won’t want to miss this chance to get the epic closing track from Splitting Sky—cut for length from the vinyl LP released by No Balls Records—served up on some hot wax of it’s own.

But wait! There’s more… The B side is a previously unreleased live version of “Grab the Reins” – also featured on Splitting Sky—recorded in December 2011 at the Velvet Lounge in Borracho’s hometown of Washington DC. The live recording and mixing of the track was done by Frank Marchand, who also manned the boards for recording and mixing of Splitting Sky.

Three vinyl color options will be available—clear, transparent blue, and solid white. Pick your favorite or collect them all! Hand numbered gatefold sleeves seal the deal on this collector’s dream.

“Plunge/Return” preorder is available from our Bandcamp page or directly from Strange Magic Records by emailing info@strangemagicrecords.com. The “Plunge/Return” single follows up on the October 2011 release of “Circulos Concentricos“—the track “Concentric Circles” in both English and Spanish—released on limited edition 7” vinyl in October 2011.

Fans in the Wilmington DE/ Philadelphia PA area can get their hands on these gems before the release date by catching Borracho with Black Cowgirl, Wizard Eye, Behind the Ghost, and Wasted Theory on November 16th at Mojo 13 in Wilmington DE at an event dubbed “The Eye of the Stoned Goat.” Want all our vinyl? This could be your last chance. Only a few LPs and 7” are left.

Previously unreleased live version of “All in Play” on new comp

On July 25th The Ripple Effect—one of the world’s premiere sites for discovering new and lost classic music—launched their first ever compilation entitled “The Ripple Effect Presents: Volume 1 – Head Music.” The release marks the 5th anniversary of the site and features some of the best of the new wave of modern heavy rock bands. Including us! In all 23 bands are included, some more established, others up-and-coming, including Devil to Pay, Super Giant, Steak, and many more you’ll be sure to be hearing more about soon. And most of them are previously unreleased, and exclusive to this comp.

Head Music

Our contribution to this free digital offering is a previously unreleased live version of “All In Play,” the epic fuzzfest from Splitting Sky. The recording was done back in December when we played a long-delayed record release show to celebrate Splitting Sky.  We enlisted Frank Marchand, who recorded and mixed Splitting Sky, to record and mix our set. We weren’t sure what we’d capture, but we wanted a record of the event. This is the first of these recordings to be released. We hope you’ll agree, it’s hot, and captures the band in it’s raw form doing what it loves to do most—performing live.

As we gear up to play some more shows, we offer you this nugget of live goodness, and hope you’ll come see it in person when we come to your town. Go download the entire comp—it’s free after all—and remember that when you support underground music, it will continue to be there for you when you need it. You can also stream it straight from the player below.

Stay tuned for more news from us soon. ¡Hasta pronto!

Salt of the Earth – All In Play

Sometimes things just work out. Earlier this year, while we were hard at work producing the video for “Concentric Circles,” a chance exchange with Swedish fan and up-and-coming video director Richard Bomgren led to the production of our very next video for “All in Play” —the epic, stand-out, sizzle-fry from the debut 2011 release Splitting Sky. And here, one year to-the-day after the album’s release, we have a monumental video release from the least likely of places—a fan! Richard—who has self-produced and directed videos for the likes of Colour Haze, Spindrift, and Valley of the Sun—brought his eye for the beauty of nature, and crafted a visually stunning clip. But don’t take our word for it. Check it out and let us know what you think!

Blow Up Your Video With New “Concentric Circles” Clips

We’re dropping the bomb in our first official video for the first single off of Splitting Sky – “Concentric Circles.” And it wouldn’t be a proper Borracho occasion without an official drinking game to go along. So before you press that play button, grab many beers, assemble a throng of your closest head-banging friends and challenge them to a round of “Boom!”—a beer down for every explosion you see. That’s right! We’ve got your buzz all worked out: every time something blows up, you drink! It’s that easy.

The video—self-produced by the band, directed by longtime friend Dicky Southcott, filmed in a day by a small crew, and edited by Kevin Bradley—frames our live show energy and punctuates it with vintage clips of destruction, atrocity and mayhem.

But we weren’t happy with just ONE video—oh no. We’ve also released an alternate cut that includes Splitting Sky intro track “Redemption” leading into the featured song, recreating the opening one-two punch of one of 2011’s stoner rock surprise albums.

Check out our YouTube channel any time to watch these videos, and all kinds of other clips.
